IBM Watson, Thorogood Consulting, and Grant Thorton Discussed At Analytics Roundtable

watsonOn June 20, 2016 the Villanova Center for Business Analytics (CBA) hosted a Business Analytics Roundtable in the ICE Institute’s IDEA accelerator. Started in 2009, the CBA’s Business Analytics Roundtable series brings together professionals and Villanova faculty interested in using analytics to make better business decisions.

The presenters at the June 20 roundtable spoke on a wide variety of topics:

  • Graham Tasman of Grant Thorton presented a model of how predictive analytics can be embedded in operating processes to increase profitably.
  • Amanda Teschko of Thorogood Consulting presented a case study of how a company transformed itself into a data driven, analytics organization.
  • Boris Vishnevsky of IBM and a student in the Villanova EMBA program, presented examples of how IBM Watson is leveraged in the sports, medicine, and fashion industries, and gave an over view of “cognitive computing”, the simulation of human thought processes in a computerized model.   • The Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants co-sponsored the event, providing CPA’s and other credentialed accountants the opportunity to receive 3 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
