This year the conference took place in Orlando, Florida. On the first day of conference, Dean Louise Fitzpatrick of Villanova’s College of Nursing was awarded the NSNA Leader of Leaders Award, the highest honor in NSNA.  Villanova’s College of Nursing was also once again recognized as a Stellar School. Advisor of Villanova’s chapter of the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania, Dr. Carol Weingarten had the opportunity to speak on the topic of “Nursing Empowerment and Health Advocacy” in a Plenary Session at the conference. She also addressed nursing students in a focus session later in the week regarding her time spent as a nurse in a military base in Germany. Nursing students also had the opportunity to network with other students and with potential employees in the exhibit hall. Students gained valuable experience in the legislative role of nurses by presenting resolutions to a House of Delegates. Once approved by the NSNA House of Delegates, the resolutions will now be brought to other relevant Nurses’ Associations for further support. At the end of convention, the new NSNA board was elected by the House of Delegates. NSNA convention provided nursing students with great experience of what it is like to participate in a professional nursing organization post graduation. Although students spent a lot of time in the convention center, the Villanova students were able to take a break, enjoy the warm weather and spend a night in Magic Kingdom, watching fireworks, the castle lighting, eating turkey legs and going on rides. For the students, it was a great way to celebrate their achievements and finish up the year.
