The Smithsonian Visits the Idea Accelerator

PathwaysOn Monday, October 26, Edith Tudae and Omar Eaton-Martinez came to the Idea Accelerator to discuss opportunities for students at the Smithsonian. Omar, the Intern & Fellows Program Manager for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of History, gave an overview of the Smithsonian and its purpose. He stated, “We are all about objects. We tell stories through material culture.” From an overarching perspective, he established that their mission is “the increase and diffusion of knowledge.”

Edith, from the Smithsonian Office of Human Resources, described the Pathways Internship Program and how students can take advantage of the opportunities that it presents. She explained how Pathways is a federal internship program that provides fully paid positions with benefits possibly included. The program provides “three paths to success” including the Internship Program, the Recent Graduate Program, and the Presidential Management Fellows Program. Offering a vast range of opportunities, the Smithsonian hires a wide variety of students in fields related to arts, science, business, and engineering as they employ over 6,000 employees.  Villanova’s connection with the Smithsonian will hopefully present another way for students to find meaningful and fulfilling careers after graduation.
