Startup Consultant and Venture Capitalist, Ray Walheim speaks at Villanova, March 25

The Entrepreneurship Practicum Class has had a variety of guest speakers, but on March 25th, venture capitalist and seasoned entrepreneur, Ray Walheim spoke to the class about his involvement in the Venture Capital world, and his experience with a handful of startups.  I had to pleasure of meeting with Ray before class, and delivering a short introduction on his background and experience.

Ray graduated from Villanova University with a major in Accounting and later went back and received his JD from Villanova Law School.  He gained experience early in his career as an Associate at a few law firms in the Philadelphia Area.  He later spent time as an Attorney, specializing in Corporate Securities Law, specifically around Venture Capital transactions.  This is what launched him into the latter part of his career which focused on investing in and launching startups.

Ray later served as the Vice President and General Counsel for Founding Advisers, a consulting firm that helped startups form and grow in their very early stages from 2004-2007.  In 2008 he became the Chief Compliance Officer at a Healthcare data management company called Med Assurant where he stayed until 2012.  Most recently, Ray is a member in Funders Club, Dreamit Ventures, Robin Hood Ventures and Investors’ Circle, a variety of Venture Capital funds and startup accelerators.  He spends time in each hearing pitches from startups and making various investments in the companies that jump out to him.  He currently sits on the board for a few of these companies that he has investments in.  Ray’s experience and connections make him a valuable resource to any entrepreneur, and we are lucky to have him as a resource to us at Villanova.
